The
Memorial stands on the Embankment beside the River Ouse. It takes the
form of an allegorical figure of Justice armed in Crusader's armour,
with a soldier's cloak and hands crossed on a two-handed sword. Beneath
the figure is a chained dragon representing evil conquered. The base
area has 8 bollards each with an animal head (lion) holding the chains.
The memorial is made from Portland stone. The memorial cost £1,708
12s 6p. The sculptor was Charles Sargeant Jagger, the architect Mr George
P Allen (FRIBA) and the builder was Mr G F Loughton. The memorial covers
the First World War, Second World War and Korean War. There are no men
named on it. It was first unveiled 20 July 1922 by Lord Ampthill.
