The memorial sits in the grounds of the Baptist Chapel on the main road through Cotton End and takes the form of a squat, granite, column with a coping stone ion the top and inscriptions around the sides; the memorial sites at the top of the driveway to the church in an area surrounded by a low chain link fence. There are seventeen entries for World War 1 and one for World War 2.

Corporal 60010, 26th Battalion, Royal Fusiliers. Killed in action 7th June 1917. Resident and enlisted Bedford. Formerly 40293, Bedfordshire Regiment. No known grave. Commemorated on YPRES (MENIN GATE) MEMORIAL, Ieper, West-Vlaanderen, Belgium. Panel 6 and 8.

Corporal 30440, 9th Battalion, Loyal North Lancashire Regiment. Killed in action 11th April 1918. Born and resident Cotton End, enlisted Bedford. Formerly 16613, Bedfordshire Regiment. Buriedin RUE-PETILLON MILITARY CEMETERY, FLEURBAIX, Pas de Calais, France. Plot I. Row P. Grave 73.

BARCOCK

Frederick

Private 25147, "C" Company, 7th Battalion, Bedfordshire Regiment.  Missing believed killed in action Thursday 15th March 1917 during the attacks on Achiet le Grand. Age 29. Brother of George Barcock, of 254, Old Harrowden Bedford. Born Cotton End, enlisted and resident Bedford. No known grave. Commemorated on THIEPVAL MEMORIAL, Somme, France.  Pier and Face 2 C.

Private 8440, 2nd Battalion, Bedfordshire Regiment. Killed in action 18th May 1915. Born and resident Wilshamstead (Wilstead), enlisted Bedford. No known grave. Commemorated on LE TOURET MEMORIAL, Pas de Calais, France. Panel 10 and 11.

Private 32212, 4th Battalion, Bedfordshire Regiment.  Died Wednesday 4th September 1918. Age 21. Son of Ann Lydia Bartram, of Cotton End, Bedford  Buried in ST. SEVER CEMETERY EXTENSION, ROUEN, Seine-Maritime, France. Section Q. Plot V. Row F. Grave 1.

Private 30565, 1st/1st Battalion, Bedfordshire Yeomanry.  Killed in action Monday 27th May 1918. Age 33. Son of Ann Lydia Bartram, of Cotton End, nr. Bedford. Born and resident Cotton End, enlisted Bedford.  Buried in ABBEVILLE COMMUNAL CEMETERY EXTENSION, Somme, France. Plot IV. Row B. Grave 9.

Private 19075, 2nd Battalion, Bedfordshire Regiment. Died of wounds 1st October 1915. Aged 24. Born Wilstead, enlisted Ampthill, resident Cotton End. Buried in LILLERS COMMUNAL CEMETERY, Pas de Calais, France. Plot IV. Row B. Grave 49.

Private 9865, 2nd Battalion, Bedfordshire Regiment. Died of wounds 5th December 1914. Aged 24. Born and resident Cotton End, enlisted Bedford. Buried in BOULOGNE EASTERN CEMETERY, Pas de Calais, France. Plot III. Row B. Grave 29.

De Ruvigny's Roll of Honour, page 60, states: 'COLLINS, W., Private, No. 9865, 2nd Battn. The Bedfordshire Regt.; served with the Expeditionary Force in France; died of wounds 5 Nov. 1914.

Corporal 65166.  128th Field Company, Royal Engineers.  Died of wounds at home Saturday 18th November 1916. Age 26. Husband of E. Gale, of Wilstead. Born at Cotton End, Beds according to CWGC, born Cardington on SDGW, enlisted Oxford, resident Bedford. Buried in North part of ALL SAINTS CHURCHYARD, WILSHAMSTEAD (or WILSTEAD), Bedfordshire, United Kingdom.

Private 103467, 10th Battalion, Sherwood Foresters (Nottinghamshire and Derbyshire Regiment). Killed in action 21st April 1918. Aged 24. Born Cotton End, enlisted Bedford, resident Hove, Sussex. Son of Mr. and Mrs. Fred Green, of Cotton End, Bedford; husband of Winifred Ellen Green, of 16, Sussex Rd., Hove, Brighton. Formerly 16781, Bedfordshire Regiment. No known grave. Commemorated on POZIERES MEMORIAL, Somme, France. Panel 52 to 54.

Private 57882.  15th Battalion, Cheshire Regiment.  Killed in action Thursday 28th February 1918. Age 23. Son of the Rev. George and Priscilla P. Marshall, of The Manse, Cotton End, Bedford. Born at Tobermore, Belfast, Co. Derry, enlisted Bedford. Awarded Military Medal. Formerly 1674, Royal Engineers. Buried in CEMENT HOUSE CEMETERY, Langemark-Poelkapelle, West-Vlaanderen, Belgium.
