        The 
          J.W. Green Memorial, a large brass plaque, commemorates the men who 
          died in the First World War who worked at the brewery in Park Street 
          West, Luton. We will be grateful for any further information about this 
          Memorial. It is now in the care of Luton Museum in Wardown Park, and 
          we thank them for allowing us access to it. The Memorial gives full 
          name, Regiment, rank, place and year of death.

                1st Battalion, Bedfordshire Regiment. Admitted to hospital with 
                wounds to right thigh 18 May 1916, died from those wounds Thursday 
                18 May 1916. Aged 31. Born 10 August 1884. Unmarried. Son of John 
                W. and Mary Ann Green (nee Cumberland), of "The Larches", 
                Luton. His sister was Gertrude Mary who married Sidney Tabor, 
                they lived most of their married life in Harlington Manor. Awarded 
                the Military Cross (M.C. - see London Gazette). Admitted to Bedford 
                Grammar School in September 1898, left December 1903. In the 1891 
                census he was aged 6, born Luton, son of John William and Mary 
                Anne Green, resident The Larches, Bedford Road, Luton. In the 
                1911 census he was aged 26, born Luton, a Bar Law Student at 39, 
                Audley House, Margaret Street, Maylebone, London W. Buried in 
                FAUBOURG D'AMIENS CEMETERY, ARRAS, Pas de Calais, France. Plot

              Formerly 32051 Bedfordshire Regiment. Killed in action Saturday 
              20 April 1918. Age 32. Son of George William and Emily Jane Bird, 
              of 20, Gloucester Rd., Luton, Bedfordshire. Born and enlisted Luton. Buried in BELGIAN BATTERY CORNER CEMETERY, Ieper, West-Vlaanderen, Belgium.

                      fire while asleep in his dug-out. He was buried near Ypres.

                      fought at Hulluch. He was reported missing after this engagement 
                      on July 12th, 1917, and was late presumed to have been killed 
                      there. He was entitled to the General Service and Victory

              and Sarah Elizabeth Richards, of 147, Hitchin Rd., Luton; husband 
              of Emma (nee Worsley) Richards, of 178, Park St., Luton, married 
              3 October 1913 in Luton. Served in the South African Campaign. In 
              the 1881 census he was newborn, born Luton, son of Sarah Richards, 
              resident 94, Albert Road, Luton. In the 1891 census he was aged 
              10, born Luton, at school, son of Sarah Richards, resident Albert 
              Road, Luton. In the 1911 census he was aged 30, born Luton, a Turner, 
              son of Charles and Srah Richards, resident 147, Hitchin Road, Luton.
