In
the churchyard of St. Mary of Antioch in Knotting, stands an ancient
village cross, above the road.
There are no names on the memorial just the inscription that was added
later.
THIS
ROSE WAS RESTORED
IN 1921 IN MEMORY OF
MEN FROM KNOTTING
WHO FELL IN THE GREAT WAR
Inside the church is a plaque,
which gives name and Regiment of the men.

Tuesday 20 November 1917. Born Kettering Northamptonshire. Lived
Sharnbrook. Enlisted Ampthill. Commemorated on Cambrai Memorial, Louveral,
Nord, France. Ref. Panel 5.

Bedfordshire Regiment. Killed in action Monday 25 September 1916.
Born Swineshead. Lived Sharnbrook. Enlisted Bedford. Commemorated on
Guard’s Cemetery, Lesboeffs, Somme, France. Ref. X.L.7. See also

Pte 18904. 4th Battalion
Bedfordshire Regiment. Killed in action Monday 23 April 1917. Born
& lived Knotting. Enlisted Bedford. He was baptized in Knotting
church on 25 July 1897. He was the son of Charles and Mary Ann Smith.
During the service which took place following the restoration in
1921, Mrs. Smith placed a wreath at the base of the cross "In grateful
remembrance fro the people of Knotting". Commemorated on Arras memorial,
Pas-de-Calais, France. Ref. Bay 5.
