          The 
            inscription begins on the North side of the memorial.  Names are given 
            in the form of initials followed by surname.  The list of Great War 
            names is continued on the East and then the West side.  The 1939-1945 
            names are on the South side. There is also a Roll of Honour in the 
            church but this is not on permanent display. 1914

              was killed in action on Friday, 9th August 1918 in France.  Born 
              Marston Shelton, enlisted Bedford.  Formerly G/22119 Buffs.  Commemorated on VIS-EN-ARTOIS MEMORIAL, Pas de Calais, 
              France.  Panel Number: 7 He 
              joined in 1916, and in the following year was drafted to France, 
              where he was in action in the bBattles of Ypres, Lens and Cambrai. 
              He gave his life for the freedom of England at Cambrai on August 
              9th, 1918, during the final Allied Advance. He was entitled to the 
              General Service and Victory Medals. “He 
              joined the geat white company of valiant souls.” (National Roll of the Great War,

              19th April 1917 in France.  Born Marston, resident Marston Shelton, 
              enlisted Bedford.  Buried in LOOS BRITISH CEMETERY, Pas de Calais, 
              France.  Grave Reference:  IV. A. 14. Volunteering 
              in 1915 he was drafted to the Western Front and was in action at 
              Albert and Vimy Ridge.  Owing to ill-health he was invalided home 
              for hospital treatment and, on his recovery returned to France and 
              fought in various parts of the line.  He was reported missing on 
              April 19th, 1917, and after was presumed to have been 
              killed on that date.  He was entitled to the General Service and 
              Victory medals. “His

                the 1911 census Frederick William Dudley was married to Mary, 
                aged 24, a Kiln Labourer, born Marston, resident with his in-laws, 
                Thomas Edwards & Elizabeth Jane Smith at Wootton Green. His 
                birth was registered in the Woburn Registration District in the 
                January to March Quarter 1887. [From 
              National Roll of the Great War Section XII - Bedford & Northampton] DUDLEY, 
              F.W., Sergeant, Bedfordshire Regiment.He volunteered in September 1914, and in the following year was 
              drafted to the Dardenelles, where he saw much severe fighting and 
              contacted dysentry. He was afterwards transferred to the Western 
              Front, where he was unfortunately killed in action action on April 
              25th, 1917. He was entitled to the 1914-15 Star, and the General 
              Service and Victory Medals.

                      Bedford Hospital.   He 
                      volunteered in 1915, and in the following years was drafted 
                      to the Western front, where he saw severe fighting in various 
                      sectors.  He took part in the Battle of the Somme, Arras 
                      and Cambrai, and many minor engagements, and was gassed 
                      and wounded in action at Ypres.  He was finally demobilised 
                      in March 1919, and holds the General service and Victory
