There
are two memorials, the first outisde the church is to the men of
the parish who fell in the two world wars.
The second is from the 92nd Bomb Group, USAF in the form of an organ.
There is a further memorial between the village and airfield.

The
war memorial sits in the the churchyard of Podington parish church.
Within the church are various other plaques and a memorial in the form
of an organ from the 92nd Bombardment Group of the U.S. Eighth Air Force
1942-45. There is a further Roll of Honour within the church which lists
all the men named of the memorial with one additional name.

of St Mary church, Podington.

17th February 1897 at Henswick House, Podington, Bedfordshire. Educated
at Rugby. Enlisted in 1/5 Battalion Bedfordshire Regiemnt(TF), January
1915. Commissioned as 2nd Lt., served at Gallipoli and wounded in
action by sniper's bullet. Invalided to UK and transferred to RFC
on recovery. Pilot with 19 Sqn., 1916-17, then with 44 (Home Defence)
Sqn., July 1917-December 1917. Promoted to Captain and sent to 73
Sqn. as flight commander, Decmber 1917. On 13th march 1918, shot
down and severely wounded Ltn.Lothar von Richthofen (brother of
Manfred), SE of Cambrai. Wounded in action (leg) in combat with
Albatros scouts over Ham, 23rd March 191? ; invalided to UK. Served
as instructor after recovery, then went on to 43 Sqn. as flight
commander, August 1918. Credited with 7 combat victories during
WW1. Test pilot at Aeroplane Experimental Establishment, Martlesham
Heath, 1919-25. Awarded AFC 1921 and Bar 1929. Pilot with High Speed
Flight (Schneider Trophy team) 1929-31. Set World Air Speed Record
during 1927 Schneider Trophy at Venice, flying Supermarine seaplane;
Britain, having won the 1927 race in VENICE, then became the subsequent
host for the contest, the 1929 venue for the Schneider Trophy was
Calshot, which is on the eastern entrance to Southampton Water.
Senior Air Staff Officer, Aden, mid-1930s. As Group Capt., was OC
RAF Northolt, 1939. Promoted to Air Commodore and served at Fighter
Command HQ during WW2.

- 2nd Lieut. William Aubrey Orlebar, 19th Hussars, died
in Ladysmith, Feb. 17th, 1900. He was born March, 1879, educated
at Harrow, and entered the 19th Hussars in May, 1898. He proceeded
to South Africa with his Regiment from India in Sept., 1899, and
took part in the defence of Ladysmith up to the time of his death.
