The Cambridge University, Trinity College World War 2 memorial is in the form of an engraved stone tablet on the west wall of the College Chapel. The west wall of the Ante-Chapel, behind the statue of Newton, is dedicated to a huge memorial of Portland stone, engraved by David Kindersley in 1951 with the names of 384 Trinity men who died in the Second World War

FANSHAWE Basil Verney
Flying Officer (Pilot) 39311, 115 Squadron, Royal Air Force, Bomber Command. Killed while flying out of Marham, Norfolk, in a Vickers Wellington IA, serial number N2987, when the aircraft crashed near Wyton, Hunts due to severe turbulence during a ferry flight from Marham to the Vickers factory at Weybridge, two crew members survived, 19 March 1940. Aged 28. Native of Chelsea, London. Born 25 May 1911 in Godalming, Surrey, baptised 2 July 1911 in Godalming, SS Peter & Paul, resident The Vicarage, Godalming. Son of the Revd. Canon Gerald Charles Fanshawe and Morforwyn Mary Levison Fanshawe, of Chelsea, London. Educated at Eton. Admitted as Pensioner at Trinity 1 October 1929; B.A. 1933. Buried in WINCHESTER (MAGDALEN HILL) CEMETERY, Hampshire. Row E. 3. Grave 42. (St. Morris Plot).
FAVELL Edward Vernon Molyneux
Major 75263, 2nd (Airborne) Battalion, Oxfordshire and Buckinghamshire Light Infantry. Killed in action in Western Europe 19 June 1944. Aged 27. Born 6 November 1917 in Sheffield, West Riding, Yorkshire, resident Cornwall. Son of Richard Vernon Favell and Alice Molyneux Favell, of Penberth, Cornwall. Educated at Winchester College. Admitted as Pensioner at Trinity 1 October 1936; B.A. 1939. In the 1921 census he was the nephew of Edith Winifred Favell, aged 3, born Sheffield, Yorkshire, resident Forestone, St Buryan, Cornwall. Cornish Major Killed

The death in action is announced of Maj. Edward Vernon Molyneux Favell, younger son of the late Dr. R. Vernon Favell and Mrs. Vernon Favell, of Penberth, St. Buryan.
A member of the Regular Army, he was serving with the airborne forces at the time of his death. His elder brother is Com. Richard Favell, D.S.C., R.N., submarine ace.
FISHER Basil Mark

Flying Officer (Pilot) 72382, 111 Squadron, Royal Air Force Volunteer Reserve. Killed in action flying out of Croydon, Surrey, in a Hawker Hurricane I, serial number P3944, when the aircraft was shot down in combat with Ju88s off Selsey Bill and crashed at Sidlesham, Sussex, during a patrol, although he baled out he sadly died, 15 August 1940. Born 8 October 1916 in Kensington, London. Son of Captain George Kenneth Thompson and Janet Fisher. Educated at Eton. Admitted as Pensioner at Trinity 1 October 1935; B.A. 1938. In the 1921 census he was the son of Janet D M Fisher, aged 4, born South Kensington, London, resident 23, Launceston Place, Kensington, London & Middlesex. In the 1939 Register he was born 8 October 1916, a Civil Servant, single, resident Ascot Queen Hill, Bray, Windsor R.D., Berkshire. Buried in ETON (ST. JOHN) CHURCH CEMETERY, Buckinghamshire. Grave 41.

Captain 71897, 1st Battalion, Bedfordshire and Hertfordshire Regiment. Killed in action in Italy 2 September 1944. Aged 25. Born 23 April 1919 in Manchester, resident York. Son of Maj. the Hon. Bertram Foljambe, M.C., and the Hon. Mrs. Bertram Foljambe, of York; husband of Elizabeth J Foljambe (nee Flint), of York, married July to September Quarter 1942 in Westminster Registration District, London. Educated at Eton. Admitted as Pensioner at Trinity 1 October 1937; B.A. 1944. Buried in FLORENCE WAR CEMETERY, Italy. Plot V. Row A. Grave 3.
FOSTER John Conway

Squadron Leader 85149, Air Ministry Unit, Royal Air Force Volunteer Reserve, Technical Training Command. Died at The Royal Masonic Hospital, Hammersmith. London, based in London 10 July 1945. Aged 49. Native of Great Glemham, Suffolk. Born 21 April 1897 at San Remo, Liguria, Italy. Son of Michael Gloye Foster and Charlotte Shipley Foster; husband of Franklin Foster (nee Engs), of Great Glemham, Suffolk. Educated at Malvern College. Admitted as Pensioner at Trinity 25 June 1915. In the 1939 Register he was born 21 April 1897, married, a Secretary Shipbuilding Company, resident 29, Holbein House, Belgravia, City of Westminster, Chelsea, London. Cremated and commemorated at GOLDERS GREEN CREMATORIUM, Middlesex, London. Panel 2.

Captain 177534, Royal Fusiliers (City of London Regiment) attached to M.I. 9 [the British Directorate of Military Intelligence Section 9, was a secret department of the War Office between 1939 and 1945.]. Killed in action in C.M.-Southern France 22 August 1944. Aged 25. Born 12 February 1919 at Farncombe, Godalming, Surrey, resident London N. Son of Henry Seymour Fowler and Ida Margaret Fowler, of St. John's Wood, London. Educated at Stowe. Admitted as Pensioner at Trinity 1 October 1937; B.A. (Cantab.) 1940. Mentioned in Despatches (MiD). Buried in MOUREZE COMMUNAL CEMETERY, Hérault, France.
