Second Lieutenant, Northants Yeomanry & 28 Squadron, Royal Flying Corps. Killed in flying accident, at Gosport Hants, 10 December 1916. aged 22. Son of John Marsland Brooke & Jane Brooke, of Childerley Hall. The aircraft, a Henri Farman, stalled & crashed from 200ft. The aircraft's other occupant, 2^nd Lt. William Desmond Guthrie Lotan, from Dublin (Royal Munster Fusiliers & RFC) was also killed & is buried at Clare, Co. Kildare.

Brooke was born in 1892. Son of John Marsland Brooke and Jane Brooke, of Childerley Hall, Cambridge. He came to The Leys in 1808 at the age of 16 and went into West House. He won Second Colours at Football.

On leaving school, Brooke went to Canada and worked as a mechanic.

At the outbreak of war, Brooke enlisted in a Yeomanry Regiment before volunteering for the Royal Flying Corps in 1915. He was killed in an air accident on 10 December 1916 at the age of 24, having reached the rank of Second Lieutenant. He is buried in DRY DRAYTON (SS. PETER AND PAUL) CHURCHYARD, Cambridgeshire. Son of Arthur John and Alice Radford, of Childerley, Caxton, Cambridge, England. Arrived in Autralia aged 19. Farm Labourer. Enlisted Junee, New South Wales, 13th September 1916, aged 25, height 5 feet 5 inches, girth 37½ inches, complexion medium, eyes blue, hair brown. Church of England. Buried in STRAND MILITARY CEMETERY, Comines-Warneton, Hainaut, Belgium. Plot II. Row B. Grave 5.

Private 3/6447, 1st Battalion, Bedfordshire Regiment. Killed in action 7 November 1914. Aged 23. Born Old Chesterton, enlisted Cambridge, resident Old Chesterton. Son of William Tyrrell of The Slipe, Milton, Cambridge. No known grave. Commemorated on LE TOURET MEMORIAL, Pas de Calais, France. Panel 10 and 11. It is not absolutely certain that this is the correct man although there only appears to be this one that fits.
