War 1 & 2 - Roll of Honour with detailed information

The
memorial stands outisde the churchyard n the corner of High Street and
Station Road, Melbourn. It takes the form of a five-stepped square base
plus a square sectioned plinth base riser, surmounted by a square sectioned
plinth incorporating vertical stop chamfers at each corner, followed
by a tapering square sectioned shaft, boss and cross; there are an incised
inscription and names on side faces of plinth with a carved relief of
a garland on the front face of shaft base and a flower vase, with inscription,
mounted centrally on third step. The whole memorial is surrounded by
a wide band of block paving bricks and includes a path leading from
the roadside pavement. The memorial architects were Messrs. G. A. Ward
and Sons. The memorial was unveiled 10 December 1920 by A. R. Fordham.
The memorial contains 45 names for World War 1, 13 names for World War
2 and and additional name at the base of the memorial.
