War 1 - Roll of Honour with detailed information

The
Pondersbridge memorial was in the form of a bronze plaque which resided
in the parish church at Pondersbridge. It is currently missing. There
were 19 names listed for World War 1. The memorial was unveiled in May
1920. Details have been transcribed from an old photograph of the memorial
which was in St Thomas Parish Church.

1915. Aged 22. Elder son of Mrs. Elizabeth Saunders, of Glassmore
House, Whittlesea, Peterborough, and the late Walter Shepperson
Saunders. Educated at Oundle School, admitted in September 1906
entering Crosby House; left in April 1910, and later took up farming.
In the 1901 census he was aged 7, born Whittlesey, son of Walter
Shepperson and Elizabeth Saunders, resident Glassmoor Bank, Whittlesey
Rural (Isle of Ely), Whittlesey, Cambridgeshire. In the 1911 census
he was aged 17, born GLassmoor, Whittlesea, a Farmer's son managing
farm, son of Elizabeth Saunders (a widow), resident Glassmoor, Whittesley,
Cambridgeshire. No known grave. Commemorated on Ypres (Menin Gate)
Memorial, Ieper, West-Vlaanderen, Belgium. Panel 50 and 52. Also
