The
memorial is to be found in the churchyard of St Mary's Church and takes
the form of a two stepped, square base with tapered plinth, shaft and
Lation cross on top; the inscription on the sides of the plinth. There
are 14 names listed for World War 1 and 4 for World War 2.

Died of wounds 12 November 1917. Aged 21. Born West Wickham (SDGW),
enlisted Linton. Formerly 14111, Suffolk Regiment. Entered France
25 July 1915. In the 1911 census he is the grandson of William Beavis,
aged 14, labourer on farm, born London, resident West Wickham. His
birth was registered in the Pancars Registration District, London
in the October to December Quarter 1896. Buried in CAIRO WAR MEMORIAL
CEMETERY, Egypt. Section F. Grave 334.

George Flack was born in West Wickham (Linton Q2-1888 3B:525)
son of Elijah and Elizabeth FLACK (née PRESTON). In the
1891 census he was aged 3, residing The Street, West Wickham with
his father Elijah FLACK [39] farm labourer; his mother Elizabeth
[37]; brothers Frederick [18], Sidney [14] and Reuben [12] (all
farm labourers), Christopher [10], Shadrack [8] and Albert [5
months]; sister Bessie [4]. All were born in West Wickham. In
the 1901 census he was aged 12, living at Streetly End, West Wickham
with his parents; brothers Shadrack (farm labourer), Albert, Alexander
[8], Walter [4] and Frank [3] (all born West Wickham); sister
Elizabeth (Bessie). In the 1911 census he is the son of Henry
and Alice Flack, aged 18, Carter for Builder, born Cambridge,
resident 54 Cowper Road, Cherryhinton Road, Cambridge. In 1913
he married Emily FLACK (Linton Q2-1913 3B:943). Born in Duxford
in 1889, daughter of John and Sarah FLACK. She is named as his
sole legatee in "Soldiers Effects". Their son Arthur
was born in 1914.
