TILLICOULTRY DEVONVALE MILLS WAR MEMORIAL

The memorial is to be found by the entrance to Sterling Mills Shopping Outlet Village in the large car park immediately behind memorial in Moss Road, Tillicoultry, Clackmannanshire. It takes the form of a kneeling, weeping, figure of winged Victory holding sword and wreath positioned on the top of a central stone on which is listed the inscription; the memorial itself is aligned in centre of a concave wall bearing name lists with memorial gates positioned on both sides. The sculptor was Charles D'Orville Pilkington and the consulting architect was Mr A. Bracewell, Tillicoultry. The memorial was dedicated by Rev. George Lyall, M.A. and unveiled by Mr S. A. Platfoot, Devondale House, managing director of Messrs Samuel Jones & Co. (Devondale) Ltd. 29 May 1949.

Native of Tillicoultry, Clackmannanshire. Bases at LG 91, Egypt. Son of Mr. and Mrs. William McEwan, of Tillicoultry, Clackmannanshire. Buried in ALEXANDRIA (HADRA) WAR MEMORIAL CEMETERY, Egypt.
