BETWS-YN-RHOS WAR MEMORIAL

The memorial can be found at St Michaels' Church, Betws-yn-Rhos and takes the form of a tapering plinth, mounted on a base, that is in turn holding a shaft with a Celtic cross at the top of it. The inscription is in releief on the front face of the plinth and there is Cektic knotwork worked into the front face of the cross. The memorial was unveiled in 1920. There are seven name for World War 1 only.

Lieutenant, 3rd Battalion, Grenadier Guards. Died of wounds 16th September 1916 in France. Aged 22. Son of Major-General E. W. Wynne (late Grenadier Guards) and Gwendolyn, his wife, of Coed Coch, Denbighshire. Buried in LA NEUVILLE BRITISH CEMETERY, CORBIE, Somme, France. Plot II. Row E. Grave 29. Plaque in the church reads:

Private 40176, 16th Battalion, Welsh Regiment. Killed in action 27th December 1916 in Belgium. Born Bettws Abergele, Denbighshire, enlisted Colwyn Bay. Buried in WHITE HOUSE CEMETERY, ST. JEAN-LES-YPRES, Ieper, West-Vlaanderen, Belgium. Plot III. Row J. Grave 12.

Private. Died in France. possibly Private 61101, 3rd Battalion, Royal Welsh Fusiliers. Died in United Kingdom 18th February 1917. Born llansilin, enlisted Llanrhaiadr, resident Bryn Coch. Son of Mrs Mary Davies, of Bryn Coch, Llawnt, in Oswestry. Buried in CHRIST CHURCH CHURCHYARD, RHYDYCROESAU, Denbighshire.
