CHAPEL
SOLDIER'S HONOUR
Military
Medal for Pte. W. Nadin
Our
photo is that of Private Walter Nadin, of Chapel, a Sherwood Forester,
who, as announced last week, has been awarded the military medal.

Private
W. NADIN
He
was before he enlisted employed at Messrs, Frood's works, and
was a member of the Chapel Town Prize Band.
A
further extract from a local newspaper:
ANOTHER
WAR HONOUR --- We have pleasure in announcing another
war honour for the ancient capital of the Peak. Private Walter
Nadin, of the Territorials, has been awarded the Military Medal.
How he won it is thus officially described: "This soldier
showed conspicuous gallantry and initiative in a raid on the Germman
trenches east of Hill 70 on the night of November 4th-5th. On
reaching the German trenches the leading man of the party was
wounded and the party was checked. Private Nadin at once got the
party together and going to the front acted as bayonet man and
pushed forward to their final objective. There he was joined by
an officer, and together they attacked the German post and took
one prisoner, who was brought back. By his coolness at a time
when things were not going well, and when the flanking party on
his left had been scattered by a barrage, this man did much to
save a dangerous situation. "Recommended for immediate reward."
Private Nadin is the son of Mr. James Nadin, Sandiway Head. He
has been in France a long period. Prior to enlisting he was employed
at Messrs. Frood's works, and was a member of the Chapel Town
Prize Band. Many friends will congratulate him on his well-deserved
honour.
