War 1 & 2 - Detailed information
Compiled and copyright © Alf Beard 2010
The
memorial for Snelston village is to be found at the roadside at the
junction of Littlefield Lane, Church Road and Cacklehill Lane, Snelston.
It takes the form of a tapered octagonal stone pillar, with a carved
interwoven decoration on the face, supporting a four-sided display featuring
carved angels or saints in a niche on each face, and a decorated Latin
cross above, an octagonal stone plinth, with incised lettering on some
faces, standing on a hexagonal stone base. The whole is set in a circular
paved area. There are seven names listed for World War 1 and two for
World War 2.
