The
memorial stands outside St Michael's Church, Fore Street, beer, Devon.
It takes the form of a cross, with a foliate design on the arms, set
on a tapering shaft and square stone plinth with a three-stepped base.
The inscription is in black lettering on the plinth later additions
have been added to the steps. There are 25 names for World War 1 and
12 for World War 2.

Note:
On 17th September 1939 Kapitanleutnant Otto Schuhart in the type
V11 U-boat U29 torpedoed and sank H.M.S. Courageous in the south-west
approaches, south west of Ireland. She went down within 20 minutes
taking 518 of her compliment of 1200 with her, including her Commander
Captain W.T. Makeig-Jones. Courageous started life as a large
Light Cruiser and was converted to a fast Aircraft Carrier. Her
15 inch guns were removed and fitted to H.M.S. Vanguard.
