The memorial is situated in the churchyard of St Mary’s Church, Hemyock. It has a square base surmounted by a tapering plinth, a shaft and a wheel cross with the inscription on bronze plaques on one side of the plinth and on the step, with a low brick wall behind it; the side of the cross has a Celtic knotwork design on it. An additional palque has been added on the wall behind the memorial dedicated to the celebration of peace from 1945-1995. There are 20 names listed fro World War 1 and 4 for World War 2.

BOYLAND	Charles aka Charlie	Private PO/16677, H.M.S. Glatton, Royal Marine Light Infantry. Injured at sea and subsequently died of those injuries 2 October 1918. Aged 23. Born at Stockland, Honiton (Hemyock) 22 August 1895. Son of Henry James and Hannah Charity Boyland, of Lower Oddle, Upottery, Honiton, Devon. In the 1901 census he was aged 5, son of henry J and Hannah Boyland, born Stockland, Devon, resident Truances Cottage, Gittisham, Honiton, Devon. In the 1911 census he was a servant, worker on road, aged 15, born Stockland, resident Four Elms, Yarcombe Chard, Yarcombe, Devon. In 1900 he was admitted to Gittisham School, Gittisham, Devon then in 1905 he was admitted to Luppitt National School, Luppitt, Devon and then in 1908 he was admitted to Dunkeswell Abbey School, Dunkeswell, Devon, Enlisted in the Royal Marines 6 January 1913 at which time his mother Hannah lived at Grey Walls Cottage, Hemycock. Height 5 feet 4 inches, fresh complexion, hazel eyes, brown hair. Buried in HEMYOCK CEMETERY, Devon. Grave 264.
BROWNING	Henry	Private 24959, 1st Battalion, Devonshire Regiment. Died 2 April 1918. Aged 29. Son of John and Sarah Browning, of Hemyock; husband of M. Georgina Browning, of Cornhill, Hemyock. In the 1901 census he was aged 12, son of John and Sarah Jane Browning, born Hemyock, resident Egypt, Hemyock. Buried in HEMYOCK CEMETERY, Devon. Grave 284. * Not on SDGW
CLIST	Samuel [Stone]	Private 21194, 2nd Battalion, Devonshire Regiment. Killed in action 31 May 1918. Aged 35. Born Hemyock, enlisted Tiverton. Son of William and Margaret Clist, of Culmstock Rd., Hemyock, Collumpton, Devon. No known grave. Commemorated on SOISSONS MEMORIAL, Aisne, FRance.
FARRANT	Percy	Private 7172, Inns of Court Officers' Training Corps. Died from Acute Appendicitis in Aylesbury Military Hospital, Aylesbury, United Kingdom 30 June 1916. Born Hemyock, enlisted London. In the 1891 census he was aged 1, son of Samuel and Mary Farrant, born Hemyock, resident Higher Westown, Hemyock. In the 1901 census he is aged 11, a schoolboy, born Hemyock, resident Higher Westown Farm, Hemyock. Attested 3 November 1915 at Lincoln's Inn, London. Surveyor by trade. Heoght 6 feet ½ inch, weight 168lbs, girth 38 inches. Suffered from Scarlet Fever 8 January 1916 to 22 January 1916, in isolation ward at Tring Hospital. Husband of Ethel Calire Farrant (nee Peers), of Station Road, Hewyock, Devon; married 1915. Buried in HEMYOCK CEMETERY, Devon. Grave 116. Letter detailing his death: Council Schools Hospital, Aylesbury. To:- 0.i/c Central Branch, Military Hospital, Aylesbury. Report on death of Pte Farrant Percy. Inns of Court. O.T.C. Pte Farrant was admitted to this hospital on June 28th 1916 in the afternoon, suffering from Acute Appendicitis . An operation was performed on the following morning; a gangrenous appendix and generalised peritonitis were found; the appendix was removed and the abdomen drained. The patient died of Toxaemia on the evening of June 30th 1916. (sd) W.Briggs. Capt. R.A.M.C.(T). July 1st. 1916.
FORBEAR	Sidney George	Signalman London Z/3880, H.M.S. Chepstow, Royal Naval Volunteer Reserve. Died from disease 12 October 1918. Aged 28. Born 26 May 1890, baptised 22 Juner 1890 at Dukeswell Abbey, Devon. Son of George and Alice Forbear, of Mackham Farm, Hemyock, Cullompton, Devon. In the 1911 census he is aged 20, resident with his aunt and unclue, a butcher's assistant, born Hemyock, Devon, resident 63 Alexandra Road, Hornsey, Middlesex. Butcher before enlisting. Enlisted 8 November 1915. Height 5 feet 4 inches, girth 35 inches, fresh complexion, brown hair, grey eyes. Religious Denomination Church of England. Buried in HASLAR ROYAL NAVAL CEMETERY, Gosport, Hampshire. Plot E. Row 33. Grave 13.
FUSSELL	William J	Private 26399, 6th Battalion, Prince Albert's (Somerset Light Infantry). Killed in action 16 September 1916. Aged 36. Born Clayhanger, Devon, enlisted Taunton, resident Hemyock. Husband of Ada Amelia Fussell, of Ivy Cottage, Ham, Wellington, Somerset. No known grave. Commemorated on THIEPVAL MEMORIAL, Somme, France. Pier and Face 2 A.
GRIFFIN	James	Private 30619 [SDGW} or 30169 [CWGC], 1st Battalion, Prince Albert's (Somerset Light Infantry). Killed in action 24 January 1917. Born and resident Hemyock, enlisted Exeter. Formerly 10827, Devonshire Regiment. Buried in PERONNE COMMUNAL CEMETERY EXTENSION, Somme, France. Plot I. Row A. Grave 36.
HALL	Joseph Henry	Private 37141, 2nd Battalion, Devonshire Regiment. Killed in action 26 May 1918. Born Cardiff, enlisted Exeter, resident Hemyock. No known grave. Commemorated on SOISSONS MEMORIAL, Aisne, France.
HILL	Ernest [Henry]	Private 11003, 7th Battalion, Gloucestershire Regiment. Killed in action at Gallipoli 8 August 1915. Aged 21. Born Hemyock, enlisted Bristol. Son of Samuel and Eva Hill, of Station Rd., Hemyock, Cullompton, Devon. No known grave. Commemorated on HELLES MEMORIAL, Turkey (including Gallipoli). Panel 101 to 104.
HOLD	George [James]	Private 16823, 9th Battalion, Devonshire Regiment. Died of wounds 5 September 1916. Aged 21. Born and resident Hemyock, enlisted Tiverton. LUTLEY	John Alfred	Private 94, 51st Battalion, Australian Infantry, A.I.F. Died of wounds in hospital at Boulogne, France, 4 May 1917. Aged 33. Born Hemyock, Devon. Farmer by trade. Son of Edward and Emily Lutley, of Whitehall, Hemyock. Educated at County School, Hemyock, Devon. Emigrated aged 29. Had previously served in the Dorset Regiment (Territorials). Attested and passed fit 1 May 1916 at McBride, British Columbia, Canada, aged 38 years 3 months. Height 5 feet 7 inches, girth 35 inches, fair complexion, light blue eyes, brown hair; religious denomination Church of England. Buried in BULLY-GRENAY COMMUNAL CEMETERY, BRITISH EXTENSION.
