Compiled & Copyright © Martin Edwards 2007
The
Plympton memorial is located inside the church of St Maurice, Castle
Street, Plympton, and takes the form of a highly elaborate wooden, oak,
wall mounted board which is surmounted by decorative features including
St George and the Dragon. The side panels were added later to incorporate
the names of those who gave their lives in World War 2. The memorial
was unveiled, by Rear-Admiral Maurice Woolcombe, and dedicated on Trinity
Sunday 30th May 1920. The memorial bears the names of 28 men who gave
their lives in World War 1 and 23 for World War 2.
