The Shaldon tribute is in the form of a roofed brick memorial in the Town Square with a clock at the top. On the various sides of the memorial are stone tablets for both wars with surnames, initials and units. There are 26 names for the first world war and 9 names for the second plus two for the Malayan Emergency of 1949

CARTER	Launcelot Edward	Private 782097 43rd Battalion, Canadian Infantry (Manitoba Regiment) 4th Canadian Division. Killed in action at Passchendaele 14th November 1917. Aged 32. Son of Mr and Mrs John Carter of Shaldon Husband of Mrs Pearl Carter of Moose Jaw, Sakatchewan, Canada Commemorated on Menin Gate Memorial, Ypres, Belgium (Canadian Section)
CATES	Arthur Kenneth	Guardsman 12811, 1st Battalion, Scots Guards. Guards Division. Died 22nd June 1918. Aged 34. Son of Mr Cates and Mary Caroline Cates of Hayes Barton, Shanklin, Isle of Wight. Born in Teddington and enlisted in Liverpool. Buried in St. Amand British Cemetery
COLBRAN	Albert Collis	[Listed on War memorial as A.A.] Private TF/315038, 2nd Battalion, Devonshire Regiment. 8th Division. Killed in action 24th April 1918. Aged 33. Son of Horace and Mary Colbran of Eastbourne, Sussex. Husband of Martha Colbran of Beach Cottage, Riverside, Shaldon. Enlisted in Newton Abbot. Buried in Adelaide Cemetery, Villers Bretonneaux
CONEYBEARE	Edward Bruce	Captain, 9th Battalion, Worcestershire Regiment. 13th Division Killed in action in Mesopotamia 5th April 1916. Aged 23. Son of Henry Crawford Conybeare (Indian Civil Service) and Mrs Amy Conybeare of 'Platway' Shaldon. Commemorated on Basra Memorial, Iraq.

EAST	Cecil Roy	Lance Corporal 1463 1/1st Battalion, Honourable Artillery Company (Infantry). 3rd Division. Killed in action 13th May 1915. Aged 23. Son of Frederick Thomas and Elizabeth Jane East of 17, Tyson Road, Forest Hill, London Enlisted in Armoury House, Tower of London. Buried in Voormezeele Enclosure No 3, Belgium
GRAEME, CMG	Laurence Oliphant	Lieutenant Colonel, 1st Battalion, Cameron Highlanders. 1st Division. Killed in action 10th March 1916. Aged 43. Served in the South African War. ADC. Durbar Tour. Three times mentioned in despatches. Son of Lt. Col. L. A. M. and Mrs Catherine Graeme, of the House of Inchbrakie (1st Madras Fusiliers). Husband of Mrs Penelope Graeme of Sutton Grange, Wansford. Buried in Noeux-Les-Mines Communal Cemetery

LORAM	Herbert	[Listed as A on the War Memorial] Private 48233, 11th Battalion, Duke of Cornwall's Light Infantry. Formerly TR/7/15838 Royal Warwickshire Regiment. Died at home 9th March 1918. Aged 18. Son of Abraham and Ida Mary Loram of 16, Middle Street, Shaldon. Born in Shaldon and enlisted in Exeter. Buried in St. Nicholas Churchyard Ringmore
LUCAS	Clifton Malet	Second Lieutenant 15th Battalion, Welsh Regiment. 38th Division.Formerly with the South Wales Borderers Killed in action on the Somme 10. 7.16. Commemorated on Thiepval Memorial.
LUCAS, DSO	M H	Lieutenant Colonel, 37th Lancers (Baluch Horse). Indian Army. Died on active service in Persia 2nd August 1920. Buried in Tehran War Cemetery, Persia (Iran)
MATTHEWS	Stephen George	Private 68419, 1st Battalion, Devonshire Regiment. 5th Division. Killed in action 23rd August 1918. Aged 19. Son of Thomas Stephen and Susan Matthews of 1, North View, Shaldon. Born in Shaldon and enlisted in Newton Abbott. Commemorated on the Vis En Artois Memorial.
MERCHANT	George Thomas	Private 51302, 1/5th Battalion, Kings Liverpool Regiment. 56th Division. Killed in action 30th November 1917. Aged 30. Formerly with the Devonshire Regiment. Son of Harriett Merchant of 1, Rose Cottage, Ringmore. Enlisted in Exeter. Buried in Villers Faucon Communal Cemetery Extension
PAYNE	Frederick George	Guardsman 9502, 2nd Battalion, Coldstream Guards 2nd Division Killed in action at Givenchy 17th January 1915. Enlisted in Teignmouth. Resident of Shaldon. Buried in Le Touret Military Cemetery, Richebourg L'Avoue
REED	Richard Barrington	Apprentice, SS 'Torrington', Mercantile Marine. Lost when the ship was torpedoed by U 55 (Werner) off the Scilly Isles on the 9th April 1917. Aged 17. Torringtons Captain (Starkey) was taken on board the submarine, but the 34 crew members were left to drown or were machine gunned in the water. Son of Richard George and Elizabeth Anne Reed. Born on Gravesend, Kent. Connection with Shaldon unknown Commemorated on Tower Hill Memorial, London.
SHEPPARD	Lewis Charles Burford	Second Lieutenant, 3rd Battalion, Somerset Light Infantry attached to Royal Flying Corps. Killed in action 21st April 1917. Aged 20. Son of Herbert Charles and Gertrude Elizabeth Sheppard of 'Undercliffe' Shaldon. Buried in Varennes Military Cemetery.

TOTHILL	Rolf Francis Cole	Able Seaman J/22350, HMS 'Foresight', Royal Navy. Lost in transit in the Fleet Messenger H.M. 'Princess Alberta' when she struck a mine on passage from Stavros to Mudros in the Aegean Sea 21st February 1917. Aged 19. Son of Henry and Mary Tothill of 25, Dagmar Street, Shaldon. Commemorated on Plymouth Memorial
WINDEATT	William Hamlyn	Guardsman 23663, 4th Battalion, Grenadier Guards. Guards Division. Died of wounds 5th October 1916. Aged 36. Son of William Hamlyn and Elza Warren Windeatt of 32, Middle Street, Shaldon Born in Shaldon and enlisted in London. Buried in Corbie Communal Cemetery Extension.
WITHEY	Charles Thomas	Deck Hand 2494/SD, SS 'Countess of Mar', Royal Naval Reserve. One of 30 men lost when the ship was torpedoed off Bayonne 4th August 191.7 Aged 26. Son of William Henry and Ellen Gertrude Withey of 'Latona', Middle Street, Shaldon. Commemorated on Plymouth Naval Memorial
WITHEY	Sydney Alfred	Private 11484, 1st Battalion, Devonshire Regiment. 5th Division. Killed in action near Arras 23rd April 1917. Aged 21. Son of William Henry and Ellen Gertrude Withey of 29, Albion Street, Shaldon. Born in London and enlisted in Exeter Commemorated on Arras Memorial

FIELDEN	Randle	Pilot Officer, Royal Australian Air Force. Killed in an accident near Coltishall, Norfolk 22nd September 1941. Son of Everard and Maude Billson Feilden of Bengough, Saskatchewan, Canada. Husband of Miriam Feilden of Calgary, Alberta, Canada. Buried in Scottow Cemetery, North Walsham Nofolk.
HICKS	George Edwin	Trooper, 5th Battalion, Royal Tank Regiment. R.A.C. Killed in action in the Western Desert near Sollum Libya 25th November 1941. Aged 25. Son of George Edwin and Ellen Hicks. Buried in Halfaya Sollum War Cemetery
HOUSTON	James Ivor	Major, Essex Regiment attached to the 3rd, Battalion, Parachute Regiment. Killed in action Arnhem 20th September 1944. Aged 32. Son of Mr and Mrs James Houston. Husband of Mrs Lorna Houston of Weyhill, Hampshire. Commemorated on Groesbeek Memorial, Holland
LONG	John	Stoker 1st Class D/KX/117591, HMS 'Hecla', Royal Navy. Lost when the Depot ship was torpedoed by U515 off Gibraltar 12th November 1942. Aged 40. 282 Lost. Son of Mr Long and Mrs Margaret Long. Husband of Emily Ada Long of Shadon. Commemorated on Plymouth Naval Memorial.
PAYNE	Thomas	Private 2nd Battalion, Devonshire Regiment. Killed in action during the siege of Malta 2rd April 1942 Aged 30. Son of Thomas and Eliza Payne. Husband of Ivy May Payne of Dawlish. Buried in Pembroke Military Cemetery, Malta.
SLATER, OBE	Edward Albert	Wing Commander Royal Air Force Died at home 22nd August 1946 Aged 46. Son of Rupert Maxwell Slate and Minnie Slater. Husband of Mrs Minnie Evelyn Slater of Shaldon. Buried in Ryde Borough Cemetery, Isle of Wight.
STOYLE	Reginald Percy	Able Seaman, H.M. Cable Ship 'Alert', Royal Navy. Died 24th February 1945. Son of Percy Frederick and Elsie Maud Stoyle of Shaldon. Commemorated on Plymouth Naval Memorial
THEOBALD	Wilfred Murray	Flight Lieutenant, No 78 Bomber Squadron. (Handley Page Halifax's), Royal Air Force. Killed in action. 12th June 1943. Commemorated on Runnymede Memorial

ROBERTS	Albut John	Trooper 19046527, 4th (Queen's Own) Hussars. Died 24th August 1949. Aged 20. Born 17 April 1929. Buried in Cheras Road Christian Cemetery, Kuala Lumpur. Row 32. Grave 1217.
Although listed directly below the 1949 casualty the name below appears separated from the entry and may be a different conflict.
BAKER-FAULKNER, DSO, DSC	Roy S	Royal Navy - He was Canadian and was in Special Services when he was lost after ditching his plane off the coast of Norway on 18 July 1944.
