The Purbeck stone memorial is in the form of a Celtic cross standing
on a raised square plinth on a small traffic island in Church Lane at
the junction with the B3047 main road. The names of those commemorated
from World War One are inscribed in a panel on the side of the plinth
which faces the main road and the names of those from World War Two
have been added on a second panel on the opposite side.
An ‘In
Memorium’ plaque in St Swithun’s church, Martyr Worthy commemorates
three grandsons of Benjamin Nevill of Chilland who died in World War
One. These three men were not residents of Martyr Worthy and their names
are not on the stone memorial. Their details are shown as a footnote
below.
