The war memorial is to be found within the parish church, Reed and takes the form of a marble plaque with two tones of marble, there are seven names listed for World War 1 only. An identical tablet exists within the Congregational Church, Reed.

Frederick John

Gunner 86717, 252nd Siege Battery, Royal Garrison Artillery. Killed in action 11th June 1917. Aged 27. Born Reed, enlisted Hitchin, resident Royston. Son of Daniel and Georgina Bysouth, of Melbourn Hill, Royston. Buried in BEDFORD HOUSE CEMETERY, Ieper, West-Vlaanderen, Belgium. Enclosure No. 4 Plot II. Row C. Grave 21.

William Thomas

Lance Corporal 22427, 5th Battalion, Princess Victoria's (Royal Irish Fusiliers). Killed in action at Salonika 8th December 1915. Aged 22. Born and resident Reed, enlisted Royston. Son of Daniel and Georgina Bysouth, of Melbourn Hill, Royston, Herts. Formerly 13549, Bedfordshire Regiment. No known grave. Commemorated on DOIRAN MEMORIAL, Greece.

Walter George

Private 12713, 2nd Battalion, Bedfordshire Regiment. Killed in action 29th August 1918. Born and resident Reed, enlisted Hertford. Buried in COMBLES COMMUNAL CEMETERY EXTENSION, Somme, France. Plot VI. Row F. Grave 16.

Herbert William Frederick

[Listed as Private on memorial] Rifleman R/41893, 8th Battalion, King's Royal Rifle Corps. Died of wounds 6th April 1918. Born Hornsey, enlisted Hitchin, resident Tottenham, Middlesex. His father-in-law lived in Reed. Formerly DM2/231252, Royal Army Service Corps. Buried in PERONNE COMMUNAL CEMETERY EXTENSION, Somme, France. Plot III. Row G. Grave 9.

Robert Lambirth

[Listed as Private on memorial] Acting Corporal 12461, 6th Battalion, Dorsetshire Regiment. Died of wounds 28th August 1916. Born Branksome, Dorset, enlisted Royston, resident Upper Parkstone, Dorset. Only son of Tim and Ellen King, of Branksome, Poole, Dorset. Was for several years a Captain in the Church Army. Buried in ABBEVILLE COMMUNAL CEMETERY, Somme, France. Plot V. Row B. Grave 17. Also appears on the Poole, Dorset, Memorial.

LAYTON

Oliver Frederick

[Listed as Frederick Oliver LAYTON on CWGC and Frederick LAYTON on SDGW] Private 23304, 4th Battalion, Bedfordshire Regiment. Killed in action 23rd April 1917. Aged 23. Born Reed, enlisted Bedford, resident Newsells, Royston. Son of Mr. and Mrs. W. H. Layton, of The Cottages, Bury Farm, Newsells, Royston, Herts. No known grave. Commemorated on ARRAS MEMORIAL, Pas de Calais, France. Bay 5.

Cecil William J

Private 31688, 11th Battalion, Northumberland Fusiliers. Died 9th October 1916. Aged 25. Born Read (sic - Reed), enlisted Royston. Formerly 26841, Bedfordshire Regiment. Son of William and Hannah Layton, of Bury Farm, Newsells, Royston, Herts. His brother Frederick Oliver also fell. No known grave. Commemorated on THIEPVAL MEMORIAL, Somme, France. Pier and Face 10 B 11 B and 12 B.
