BISHOP

Albert Edward

Private 2459, 22nd Battalion, Australian Infantry, A.I.F. Killed in action 12th November 1916. Aged 30. Born in Royston. Third son of John and Caroline Bishop of High St., Royston, Herts. Educated at Hertfordshire County School. He went to Australia in December 1911, aged 25, and enlisted in July 1915 at Fitzroy, Victoria, Australia. Resident Melbourne, Fitzroy, Victoria, Australia. He was a furniture salesman by trade. He first served in Egypt and then France. In 1916 he dislocated his left shoulder and injured his collar bone when he was buried in a trench by an exploding shell when bringing in a wounded comrade. He was sent to hospital in Etaples. He died when operating a telephone in an advanced position when a shell burst near by and shrapnel struck him in the head. He died in a couple of minutes. Buried in A.I.F. Enlisted Hertford, resident Royston. Son of Sarah Elizabeth Carter, of 19, Rock Rd., Royston, Herts, and the late Samuel Henry Carter. Buried in QUIEVY COMMUNAL CEMETERY EXTENSION, Nord, France. Grave C. 64.

Sergeant - probably John Charles Frederick DELLAR, Lance Sergeant S/15766, 7th Battalion, Rifle Briagde (The Prince Consort's Own). Killed in action 21st March 1918 in France & Flanders. Born Walworth, Surrey, enlisted London, resident Shoreditch, Middlesex. Commemorated on POZIERES MEMORIAL, Somme, France. Panel 81 to 84.

Son of Arthur and Mary Ann Drage, of 89, Queen's Rd., Royston, Herts. Buried in ETAPLES MILITARY CEMETERY, Pas de Calais, France. Grave VI. B. 8A.

Born and resident Royston, enlisted Hitchin, Hertfordshire. Son of Sidney and Selena Fisher, of 3, Orchard Rd., Royston, Herts. Commemorated on LOOS MEMORIAL, Pas de Calais, France. Panel 45 and 46.

Sergeant 235052, 8th Battalion, Lincolnshire Regiment. Killed in action 5th April 1918 in France & Flanders. Age 30. Born and enlisted Royston. Son of Elizabeth Priscilla Humphrey, of 60, Barfield Cottages, Royston, Herts, and the late Joseph Pryor Humphrey. Formerly 2524, Hertfordshire Regiment. Commemorated on ARRAS MEMORIAL, Pas de Calais, France. Bay 3 and 4.
