ST ALBANS, HOLYWELL HILL WAR MEMORIAL
World War 1 - Detailed information
Compiled and copyright © Martin Edwards 2006
In
1914 Holywell Hill was an area of very mixed properties. There were
shops and public houses on both sides of the hill and large houses as
well as small cottages. Some cottages were in 'yards' behind the shops
and houses. Thes eyards faced onto small courts with an entrance to
Holywell Hill. The memorial lists the names of men from Holywell Hill,
Day's Yard and the part of Prospect Road that fell into the Abbey parish.
