HILLSON William Mark

Private, 30177, 2nd Bn. Royal Warwickshire Regiment. Killed in action 09-10-17, aged 21. Formerly 975, Huntingdonshire Cyclist Battalion. Born and resident Orton Waterville, enlisted Peterborough. Son of Mr. J. and Mrs. T. Hillson, Orton Waterville, Peterborough. Commemorated on Tyne Cot Memorial, Zonnebeke, Panels 23/28 and 163A.

HOLLEY Harry

L/Serjeant, 17426, 6th Bn. Northamptonshire Regiment. Died of wounds 10-09-15, aged 27. Born and resident Orton Waterville, enlisted Colchester. Buried in Corbie Communal Cemetery, Somme, Grave I.A.30.

JACKSON Frederick

[Listed as Fred on SDGW] Rifleman A/205093, 9th Battalion, King's Royal Rifle Corps. Died 21st March 1918. Born Newborough, Northmaptonshire, enlisted Huntingdon, resident Peterborough. Brother of George below. Formerly TR/10/7290, Training Reserve Battalion. Commemorated in St Souplet British Cemetery, Nord, France. From Urvilliers German Cemetery, commemorated on Memorial 29.

Note: St. Souplet village was captured by the American 30th Division on the 10th October, 1918. The American troops made a cemetery of 371 American and seven British graves on the South-West side of the village, on the road to Vaux-Andigny; and a smaller British cemetery was made alongside. The American graves were removed after the Armistice, one being taken to the British cemetery with the seven British graves; and other British graves were brought in from other burial grounds and from the battlefields. There are now nearly 750, 1914-18 war casualties commemorated in this site. Of these, one-fifth are unidentified and special memorials are erected to 55 soldiers from the United Kingdom, buried in other cemeteries, whose graves could not be found.

Son of Robert & Eliza Ellen Jackson; brother of Frederick above; husband of Hilda Emily Jackson of Hardwicke Lane, Abbotsley, St Neots, Hunts. Formerly 9289, Bedfordshire Regiment. Commemorated on Tyne Cot Memorial, Zonnebeke, West-Vlaanderen, Belgium. Panel 79 to 80 and 163A.

Trooper, 14301052, 2nd Northamptonshire Yeomanry, R.A.C. Died 25-12-43, aged 20. Resident Orton Waterville, Peterborough. Son of Marjorie Cass. Buried in Orton Waterville (St. Mary) Churchyard, Peterborough.

CLARK Cyril E.

Believed to be: Stoker 1st Class, P/KX97414, Cyril Edward Clark, HMS Dunedin, Royal Navy. Killed in action 24-11-41, aged 24. Son of George and Ellen Clark; husband of Lily Clark. Commemorated on Portsmouth Naval Memorial, Panel 54, Column 3.

GRANT Alphonso Kinmont

Private, 2184064, 115th Co. Auxiliary Military Pioneer Corps. Killed in action 17-06-40, aged 25. Orton Waterville. Commemorated on Dunkirk Memorial, France, Column 151.  

SAMPSON Leonard

Leading Telegraphist, C/JX145023, HMS Kelly, Royal Navy. Killed in action 23-05-41, aged 22. Son of Ethel Sampson, Orton Waterville, Peterborough. Commemorated on Chatham Naval Memorial, Panel 46.1.

WALKER Harold George

Sergeant, 6022143, 5th Essex Regiment. Died 26-02-44, aged 27. Son of Maurice and Annie Elizabeth Walker, Orton Waterville. Buried in Sangro River War Cemetery, Italy, Grave XVII.A.19.
