This
memorial stands alone at the entrance to a Drent Court farm, Darenth
Hill, Darenth, Kent. The memorial is dedicated to a single pilot. The
memorial was dedicated on 28th May 2007 by The
Shoreham Aircraft Museum. This is part of an ongoing project to
commemorated Pilots who crashed near the museum. Flying Officer Nathaniel
Barry of 501 Squadron was a South African volunteer. On 7th October
1940, he was involved in combat with Me109s over Wrotham. His Hurricane
was hit and severely damaged and he was forced to bale out, but he was
dead before he reached the ground. Nat's memorial dedication service
was marked by a Hawker Hurricane flypast and took place at Court Lodge
Farm, Darenth near Dartford, Kent.He is listed as Flying Officer 72514,
501 Squadron, Royal Air Force Volunteer Reserve, aged 22. He was the
son of Richard Alan and Gladys Isobel Barry, of Keer Weder, Franschhoek,
Cape Province, South Africa. He is buried in FINGHALL (ST. ANDREW) CHURCHYARD,
Yorkshire, North of the church.
