LOWER HARDRES WAR MEMORIAL

World War 1 & 2 - Roll of Honour with detailed information
Compiled and copyright © Transcribed David Hughes and Neil Clark 2004

This memorial gives the man’s initials, surname and unit. As with many other memorials like this the given details are not always correct. Often family members would give the unit they remember the man serving with when in fact that person had served in another at the time of death. Sometimes a man’s rank was given wrongly (a Second Lieutenant changed to a Lieutenant or a Lance Corporal changed to a Corporal). This was done for a variety of reasons but it was mainly as a consequence of ignorence of the correct rank structure.
