SOUTHBOROUGH
WAR MEMORIAL
World
War 1 - Roll of Honour with detailed information
The
Southborough village war memorial is located at the crossroads of
London Road and Church Road, on the village green, Southborough. The
memorial was first unveiled and dedicated on 13 February 1921, the
masons being Messrs. A Burslem & Sons. The memorial is in the
form of a stone cross mounted on an octagonal plinth. There are 207
names for World War 1, 44 for World War 2 and one for the Korean War.
There
is a book available entitled "Southborough War Memorial: The
Stories of Those Commemorated" by Judith Johnson which is a unique
record of the two hundred and fifty-three men and one woman associated
with Southborough and High Brooms, Tunbridge Wells, Kent who are commemorated
on the Southborough War Memorial, the majority of whom lost their
lives in the two World Wars of the twentieth century. It recalls details
of their lives and their final resting-places, as well as some of
the memories of those they left behind.
