
BOLTON
5TH BATTALION LOYAL NORTH LANCASHIRE REGIMENT WAR MEMORIAL

The
memorial stands in Queen's Park, Bolton, facing Chorley New Road. It
takes the form of a limestone structure in the shape of a rectangular
coffin with dedicatory bronze plaques mounted on each side; carved on
the top of the front face is a cap badge with crossed flags above it
and on the rear face are carved the Corporation of Bolton Arms. The
memorial was unveiled in 1922. There are 1,009 names listed for World
War 1 by year died, rank, surname and forename. Those attached to the
5th Battalion from the 1st Battalion are listed on an Addenda plaque.
Benches with commemorative plaques have been added at a later date.
