The
Manchester University war memroial is split into two plaques, the top
one commemorates those who died in World War 2 and the lower plaque
those hwo die din World War 1. The transcription here currently contains
only those who died in World War 1, 511 names. The World War 2 plaque
contains 157 names. On 11th November 2001 a new plaque commemorating
and listing the World War 2 dead was placed above the World War 1 plaque.
This replaced a small bronze plaque which had formerly only had the
inscription 'In Remembrance 1939-1945'. The details were researched
by two members of the academic staff. The original plaque was presented
to Worsley Royal British Legion in January 2002
