WESTLEIGH (WEST LEIGH) WAR MEMORIAL

The memorial is located beside the lychgate to St Paul's Church in Westleigh Lane, Westleigh, Wigan, Greater Manchester. It takes the form of a three stepped base upon which is mounted a pillar topped by a wheel cross, the whole being set in a walled area, the wall bears the panels containing the panels of names. The memorial was dedicated in 1921 by the venerable Noel Lake Aspinall M.A. the Archdeacon of Manchester; Rev. R. Greenwood (Vicar) took the service and Mr. Ernest Turnock unveiled the memorial. There are 70 names listed for World War 1 only which have been sorted into alphabetical order fo ease of reading and research. The transcription was taken from two photographs and as such some of the initials were hard to read and are marked as such.
