LANGTON BY WRAGBY WAR MEMORIAL

World War 1 - Roll of Honour with detailed information

The war village memorial is to be found in the church of St Giles, Langton by Wragby. It takes the form of brass wall plaque with raised letters to be found on the North side of the nave, beneath a stained glass window. There are 8 names for World War 1 and none for World War 2.

L/Corporal 13421. 1st Battalion, Lincolnshire Regiment. Killed in action 4th October 1917, aged 22 years. Son of F and Betsy Blackburn of (Low) Langton, Lincs. Born South Kelsey, enlisted Louth and resident Wragby, Lincs. Awarded the Military Medal (M.M.). Commemorated TYNE COT MEMORIAL. Panel 35 to 37 and 162 to 162A.

Private 40384. 4th Battalion, Worcestershire Regiment, formerly 26202 South Staffordshire Regiment. Killed in action 23rd April 1917. Born Langton, enlisted Lincoln and resident Wragby, Lincs. Commemorated ARRAS MEMORIAL. Bay 6.

HICKSON

George Edward

Private 269046. 10th Battalion, West Riding Regiment. Killed in action 20th September 1917, aged 19 years. Son of Frederick William and Sarah Lillie Hickson of (Old) Apley, Lincs. Born Langton, Lincs, enlisted York, Yorks and resident Wragby, Lincs. Commemorated TYNE COT MEMORIAL. Panel 82 to 85 and 162A.

JOHNSON

Herbert aka Jack

[Listed as Jack on the memorial] Private 202087, 2nd/5th Battalion, Lincolnshire Regiment. Killed in action 15th April 1918. Aged 20. Born (13th May 1897) and resident Langton, enlisted Horncastle. Son of Arthur and Maria Johnson, of Langton, Wragby, Lincs. Lived at Hoop Lane, Langton and later at Blacksmith Cottage, Langton, then at Brickyard Cottages Hatton. No known grave. Commemorated on PLOEGSTEERT MEMORIAL, Comines-Warneton, Hainaut, Belgium. Panel 3.

[Harry] Percival

Lance Corproal 81184, 1st/6th Battalion, Durham Light Infantry. Killed in action 31st May 1918. Aged 20. Born 18 February 1898 in North Kelsey, resident Wragby, enlisted Lincoln. Son of Arthur and Charlotte Smith, of Ranby, Lincoln. In the 1901 census he was aged 3, born North Kelsey, Lincolnshire, son of Arthur and Charlotte Smith, resident Private House, East Barkwith, Horncastle, Lincolnshire. In the 1911 census he was aged 13, born Lincolnshire, a grocer's Errand Boy, son of Arthur and Charlotte Smith, resident Private House, East Barkwith, Horncastle, Lincolnshire. No known grave. Commemorated on SOISSONS MEMORIAL, Aisne, France.

Private 28215. E Coy, 10th Battalion, Lincolnshire Regiment. Died 6th November 1918, aged 36 years. Son of John and Mary Topliss, husband of Beatrice M Tideswell (formerly Topliss) of Budby, Newark, Notts. Born Hatton and enlisted Louth, Lincs. Commemorated POZNAN OLD GARRISON CEMETERY. IV.A.5.
