QUARRINGTON WAR MEMORIAL

The Quarrington memorials consist of a series of plaques in St Botolph’s Church, Quarrington, to the left of the pulpit. The Wall mounted metal plaques are on wooden backboards. The upper plaque details the First World War names with the names in two columns; there is a middle plaque that has two further additional First World War names listed on it. The lower plaque lists the Second World War names that are inscribed in a continuous list. The First War plaque was unveiled on 14th December 1919 by the Rural Dean of Lincoln, it was manufacturered by Messrs. Williams and Hews, the builder was Maxey & Son. Details appeared in the Sleaford Journal 20th December 1919.

BARRETT

William Carleton

To the glory of God and in loving memory of William Carlton Barrett, Captain of the S.S Stuart Prince who nobly went down with his ship 22nd March 1917 after being torpedoed by enemy submarine off the north coast of Ireland.

Also in affectionate remembrance of Eileen the only child of William Carleton and Letitia Kate Barrett, born 7th October 1896, died 16th November 1901.

There’s a home for little children, above the bright blue sky.

This window was placed here to their beloved memory by his widow Letitia Kate Barrett who was formerly a worshipper in this church of St Botolph, Quarrington.

Recorded as William, Master in the Mercantile Marine, S.S. "Stuart Prince". Son of James Carleton Barrett, Surgeon, R.N. of Baltimore, Ireland; husband of L. K. Barrett, of 11, Grange Avenue, Stretford, Manchester. Died 22nd March 1917 aged 56 and commemorated on the Tower Hill Memorial, London.
