BUCKLE

Matthew Percival

Major commanding 1st Battalion, Royal West Kent Regiment on memorial. Distinguished Service Order. Major. 1st Battalion, Royal West Kent Regiment. Killed in action 27th October 1914, aged 45 years. Son of Admiral C.E Buckle, Royal Navy. Husband of Marjorie Ethel Grace Buckle of Sausthorpe Hall, Spilsby, Lincs. Commemorated Cabaret-Rouge British Cemetery, Souchez. XXIX.C.41.

To the glory of God and in loving memory of Major Matthew Percival Buckle. Distinguished Service Order. Queens Own 1st Royal West Kent Regiment who fell in action near Neuve Chapelle, France on 27th October 1914 while in command of his Regiment.

Dulce et decorum est pro patria mori.

This tablet is erected by his widow Marjorie Buckle.

Corporal 7473. 2nd Battalion, Lincolnshire Regiment. Killed in action 25th September 1915, aged 30 years. Son of Mrs Mary Ann Chester of Raithby, Lincs. Born Stickney, enlisted Spilsby and resident Raithby, Lincs. Commemorated Ploegsteert Memorial. Panel 3.

Private 46548. 15th Battalion, Durham Light Infantry, formerly 62354 Royal Army Ordnance Corps. Killed in action 24th August 1918, aged 24 years. Son of John William and Mary E Greenwood of Raithby, Lincs. Born Raithby, Lincs and enlisted Beeston, Notts. Commemorated Regina Trench Cemetery, Grandcourt. VII.A.I.

Private 202097. 4th Battalion, Lincolnshire Regiment. Died of wounds 22nd November 1917, aged 23 years. Son of Jessie Medcalf of 16 New Markey Yard, Sneinton, Notts. Born Wainfleet, enlisted Lincoln, Lincs and resident Nottingham, Notts. Commemorated Chocques Military Cemetery. I.N.2.

Born Raithby, enlisted Spilsby and resident Raithby, Lincs. Commemorated St Martin Calvaire British Cemetery, St Martin-Sur-Cojeul. I.D.16.

Private 55157. 15th Battalion, Lancashire Fusiliers, formerly 50448 Lincolnshire Regiment. Died of wounds 2nd October 1918, aged 37 years. Son of John and Julia Wilson of Nottinghamshire, husband of Elizabeth Muriel Wilson of Church Street, Spilsby, Lincs. Born Gedling, Notts and enlisted Lincoln, Lincs. Commemorated Brie British Cemetery. V.B.5.

Their name liveth for evermore.
