The
memorial is located in Main Street, Worlaby, on the east side of the
village by the roadside and is made of granite, taking the form of
squat pillar topped by a draped urn on a three stepped plinth. There
are ten names for World War 1 and one for World War 2. The memorial
was unveiled by Lieutenant-Colonel Harold Graham Wilson on 23rd May
1920; it cost £151 2s 4d and was manuafactured by Messrs. King
and Sons. The memorial was repaired and relettered by Worlaby Parish
Council in 1991.

states Sapper, Royal Engineers 1914-1919.] Private 15232, 9th Service
Battalion (Pioneers), South Staffordshire Regiment. Died of influenza
in Italy 4 November 1918. Aged 27. Born Brinkhill, Lincolnshire,
resident Skegness, Lincolnshire, enlisted Brigg, Lincolnshire. Son
of Jesse and Bessie Batchelor, of Brinkhill, Alford, Lincs. Born
in September 1892 in Brinkhill, Lincs., the eldest child of four,
the son of Jesse and his wife Mary Ann (nee Marriot). His two brothers
died in infancy and his sister died in 1902. His mother died in
1899 and his father remarried in 1900 to Amy Elizabeth (Bessie)
Sellars and soon afterwards another daughter Lillie was born. Jesse,
the father died when the new baby was only a few months old. Buried
in CREMONA TOWN CEMETERY, Italy. Row E. Grave 3. |
