
ROYAL FUSILIERS

The
memorial stands in the centre of the road on a small traffic island
in Holborn, City of London. It takes the form of a helmeted figure of
a Private of the Royal Fusiliers in Service Dress with 1908 Pattern
Equipment, holding a rifle behind him in his right hand and with his
right leg raised on a stone; the figure stands on a tall pedestal, bearing
Second World War bomb damage, which holds the inscription. The reverse
contains a plaque denoting the various battalions that have formed part
of the Royal Fusiliers. The memorial is in the care of the Corporation
of The City of London on behalf of the Royal Fusiliers -The City of
London Regiment. The memorial was made by Albert Toft, it was first
unveiled by the Lord Mayor of London and dedicated by the Bishop of
London on 4 November 1922.
