The
memorial is located on the High Street, Edgware. It takes the form of
a Celctic Cross on a three stepped base. There are 65 names for World
War 1 and none for World War 2. It was unveiled 27th March 1920; the
money for its erection were raised by public subcription, £435.

LIEUTENANT GEOFFREY CHAUNER WAINWRIGHT, 3rd (attd. 1st) BATTN.
NORTHAMPTONSHIRE REGT., second son of Charles Henry Wainwright,
J.P., Edgware, Middlesex, and Mrs. Wainwright, was born in London
on the 27th January, 1895. He was educated at Stanmore Park and
Wellington College, Berks, where he was in the Cricket XI in 1911,
1912, and 1913; in the Football XV in 1912 ; and in the Running
VIII in 1912 and 1913. He then went to Clare College, Cambridge,
where he had just finished his first year, and had been elected
Secretary to the Clare College Cricket Club for 1915, when the
war with Germany broke out, and he was gazetted to the 3rd Battalion
Northamptonshire Regiment in September, 1914. He trained at Weymouth,
proceeded to France in November, 1914, and was attached to the
1st Battalion of his regiment.
He was wounded
in a night attack to regain some lost trenches on the 21st December,
1914, near Givenchy, Rue de l'Epinette, leading on his men after
his Captain had been wounded, and died the next evening in hospital.
He married Ada Delamere Doveton Deane, daughter of William John
Deane and Mrs. Deane, of Bath, and left two children : John Leonard
Grey Dudley, born March, 1915, posthumously ; and Monica Vivian
Grey Dudley, born March, 1913.
