The
memorial is located at the junction of Broadway and Shepperton Road,
on a small island in the carriageway, Laleham. The memorial takes the
form of a brick and stone base surmounted by tapering shaft and cross
that as has an ornate carved design on it; the names can be found in
relief on the tablets on three sides of the plinth; there is a foliate
design carved on the front face of the cross with ram carved at the
centre of the cross piece. There are 10 names for World War 1 and 17
names for World War 2.

DAVID CECIL, Lieut., 3rd Battn. Coldstream Guards, yr.
s. of Major-General the Hon. Cecil Edward Bingham, C.V.O.,
C.B., by his wife, Rose Ellinor, dau. of the late James Alexander
Guthrie, of Craigie, co. Forfar;. and gdson. of George, 4th Earl
of Lucan, K.P. ; b. 18 March, 1887 ; educ. Eton, and
the Royal Military College, Sandhurst ; was gazetted 2nd Lieut.
Coldstream Guards 29 Aug. 1906, and promoted Lieut. 14 March,
1909, being Adjutant to his regiment from 1 July, 1911, to 14
Jan. 1912 ; served with the Expeditionary Force in France and
Flanders, and was killed in action at the Battle of the Aisne
14 Sept. 1914. He m. 12 Feb. 1912, Rosabelle Millicent
St. Clair-Erskine, only dau. of James Francis Harry, 5th Earl
of Rosslyn, and had a dau., Rose, b. 1913.

LIEUTENANT
DAVID CECIL BINGHAM, 3rd BATTN. COLDSTREAM GUARDS, who
was killed in action on the 14th September, 1914, during the battle
of the Aisne, was the younger son of Major-General the Hon. C.
E. Bingham, C.V.O., C.B. (second son of the 4th Earl of Lucan),
now Commanding the 1st Cavalry Division, British Expeditionary
Force. He was born on the 18th March, 1887, and was educated at
Eton, and the R.M.C., Sandhurst, receiving his commission in the
Coldstream Guards in August, 1906, and becoming Lieu-tenant in
March, 1909. In July, 1911, he was appointed Adjutant of his battalion.
Lieutenant Bingham married, in 1912, Lady Rosabelle Millicent
St. Clair-Erskine, only daughter of the 5th Earl of Rosslyn, and
left a daughter. Rose, born 1913.

resident with his widowed grandmother, at The Common, Village, Laleham,
Staines, Middlesex. In the 1911 census he was aged 21, born laleham,
unmarried, visiting in Laleham, Middlesex. No known grave. Commemorated

Northampton Registration District Monday 20 August 1917. Aged 24.
Born Witham, Essex, enlisted Egham, Surrey. Son of Henry James and
Caroline Chaplin, of Bridge St., Witham. His younger brother Harry
Chaplin also fell. In the 1901 census he was aged 7, born Witham,
Essex, resident with his parents at Victoria Cottage, Witham, Braintree,
Essex. In the 1911 census he was aged 18, born Essex, an Domestic
Under Chauffer, boarding at High Barn, Bothy, Godalming Rural, Surrey.
He attested at Egham on 4 September 1914, aged 21, occupation Driver,
born Witham, Essex, height 5 feet 8 inches, chest 39 inches, weight
153 lbs. Buried in North-West part of WITHAM (ALL SAINTS) CHURCHYARD,
Essex. Also commemorated on Witham All Saints memorial. |

Flying Corps and 5th Battalion, Worcestershire Regiment. Died of
wounds received in action 5 March 1918, wounded 1 March 1918. Born
28 May 1898 and baptised 20 November 1898 at Walthamstow, Essex,
son of William henry and Avis Fear. Attended Windsor Street Church
of England / Council School, Chertsey (infants) School in 1901.
In the 1901 census he was aged 2, born Walthamstow, Essex, resident
with his widowed mother at Beeton Croft Villas, Stepgates, Chertsey,
Surrey. Next of kin Miss Avis Dear, of 6, Kensington Square, London
S.W., his sister. Passed as pilot 9 May 1917. Buried in ROCQUIGNY-EQUANCOURT
