In 1970 the clock was dismantled to allow regilding of the hands and new glass to be installed. The clock tower became a Grade 2 listed building in September 2001. He had 3 siblings, William, John and Emma Montague and 3 half- siblings Ellen, James and Frederick Cyster. The family were living in Wealdstone, Middlesex. Both George, his father, and Ellen were born in Harrow Middlesex. Similarly his Stepfather hailed from Middlesex, and had no obvious family connection to Blackwell. He was working for his stepfather's business of Coal Agent in 1911, and so it is possible that the connection to Blackwell is through the coal business. He does not feature in Blackwell Colliery's " Lest We Forget" , so was perhaps connected to the South Normanton Colliery and lodging in Hilcote or to the Tibshelf Babbington Colliery and staying at Newton. All this is supposition, but someone knew him well enough to register his name for inclusion on the War Memorial at Newton. He enlisted at Derby with the Grenadier Guards, and entered France on 24th April 1915. Buried in ST. MARY'S A.D.S. CEMETERY, HAISNES, Pas de Calais, France. Plot IX. Row E. Grave 1.
