The memorial
is in the shape of a Celtic cross on a large base standing on a one-step
plinth. There are twenty-six names on the base, one of which (John
W Taylor) is separated from the rest. The monument is in the grounds
of Brooklands House, which belongs to Caerphilly County Borough Council,
Social Services Department. To gain access to the monument, call at
Brooklands House during normal office hours and enquire at the main
desk. There is no access to the monument outside office hours. Those
marked in blue letters are currently
beign researched.

Aged 19. Born 27 May 1899 in Tintern, Monmouthshire. Son of Shadrach
and Mary Banfield, of Commercial Road, Machen, near Newport, Monmouthshire.
A clerk prior to his engagement, enlisted in October 1917 and after
service on training vessels joined the crew of H.M.S. Viking on
May 1st 1918. Buried in Torlincthun British Cemetery, Wimille, France.

killed early in the war. Their father was Simon Orman, of 21, Gladstone
St., Cross Keys, Monmouthshire, a Jewish immigrant from Russia.
