The memorial sits outside the parish church at Edinkillie, Moray. It is stone and built in the shape of a small altar with a bowl resting on the ledge. It has inscriptions on 3 sides and a plaque underneath inscribed as follows. Note that the entries here have surname then forenames then details, the first part of the details is the locality the men was from.

Erected in memory of the members of the parish of Edinkillie who died
in the service of their country in the great wars.

1914-1918

CUMMING Alistair M S
Logie Lieutenant. MiD. Seaforth Highlanders. Born 14/12/1889 in London. Died 2/10/1914 in France. Son of Captain Sir Mansfield S Cumming KCMG CB RN and Leslie Marian (May) Muir Valiant or Cumming. He was also known as “C” and was the first director of Britain’s Secret Intelligence Service (MI6) He was driving his father’s car when it crashed and he was killed. His father lost part of his right leg in the crash. Both men were well known for a liking for fast driving.
