The
memorial is just outside the gate of All Saints Church, Beigton, Norfolk.
It takes the form of a fourt-stepped base surmounted by a plint, and
a tapered shaft crowned wth a wheel cross. The memorial lists the names
of eight men lost in Wrld War 1 and of one lost in World War 2; the
names have the arm of service with which they served listed beside them.

Commemorated Thiepval Memorial. Pier and Face 8C, 9A and 16A.
[Note: no proven connection with Beighton found, but Roll of Honour
indicates 8th Battalion, Royal Fusiliers and killed in action 1916] |

Lewis E Myhill on memorial, Louis Ethelbert Myhill on birth and
all other records. Private 703681. 102nd Battalion, Canadian Infantry
(Central Ontario Regiment). Died 15th September 1916. Next of kin
recorded as (Uncle) J Grimson of Beighton, Norfolk (John Richard
Grimson marries Sophia Elizabeth Myhill 1889). Born Buckenham, Norfolk
1st March 1888 and enlisted 18th February 1916 Vancouver, Canada.

Hubert Howard Spooner. Born 16th May 1881, Beighton the son of William
and Susannah Spooner. Husband of Lucy Annie S Spooner (nee Thaxter).
Occupation was Fisherman. Civil death of Hubert H Spooner, aged
37 years, registered 1917 and appears death as civilian after discharge
from forces, but of war related cause and therefore on memorial.
[Note: Roll of Honour indicates service on HMS Attentive II, invalided
from service and died 1917. HMS Attentive II was shore base in Dover,
parent establishment for Auxiliary Small Craft] |

born c1897 Great Yarmouth on census), enlisted Norwich and entered
France 30th June 1915, resident Beighton, Norfolk. Commemorated

1918. The son of Joseph and Lydia Hubbard of Beighton Corner, Norfolk
(as 1911). Husband of Florence Hubbard (nee Cramp) of 4 Alexandra
Place, Buckland, Dover, KEN. Died of disease 23rd November 1918.
