Eccles is near Attleborough in Norfolk. The Eccles memorial takes the form of a wall mounted brown and cream, marble, tablet inset into an alabaster frame with the inscription in black and a Tduor Rose carved in each corner and a cross at the centre, top. There are 8 names for World War 1 only. The tablet was manufacturered by Messrs Culn Cawthorp & Sons.

[Listed on memorial as 1st Battalion, Canadian Regiment] Private A/40009, 5th Battalion, Canadian Infantry (Saskatchewan Regiment. Died of multiple shrapnel wounds at No 10 Casualty Clearing Station 7 June 1916. Aged 24. Born 2 March 1892 in East Harling, Norfolk. Son of Mary Crook, of Overa farm, Eccles near Attleborough, Norfolk. Farmer by trade. Unmarried. Enlisted 21 December 1914 in 53rd Battalion, Canadian Overseas Expeditionary Force. Height 5 feet 10 inches, girth 38 inches, complexion fair, eyes blue, hair dark, religious denomination Church of England. Scar between his eyes. Birth registered in the Wayland Registration District, Norfolk, in the April to June Quarter 1892. In the 1901 census he was aged 9, son of Harry and Mary A Crook, born East Halring, Norfolk, resident Gallants Lane, East Harling; three brothers and a sister. [Memorial states 3rd Battalion] Private 20713, 1st Battalion, Essex Regiment. Died at sea 13 August 1915. Aged 19. Born Croxton, Norfolk, enlisted Norwich, resident Eccles, Norfolk. Son of William Alfred and Anna Williams, of The Brickyard Cottages, Shipdham, Thetford, Norfolk. Formerly 16843, 3rd Battalion, Norfolk Regiment. No known grave. Commemorated on HELLES MEMORIAL, Turkey (including Gallipoli). Panel 144 to 150 or 229 to 233.

Bombardier 77261, "K" Battery, Royal Horse Artillery. Killed in action 30 November 1917. Born Eccles, Norfolk, enlisted Norwich. Birth registered in the July to September Quarter 1896 in the Guiltcross Registration District, Norfolk. In the 1901 census he is aged 4. son of Joseph H and Louisa Matthews, born Eccles, resident (The Elms), Eccles Road, East Harling, Guiltcross, Norfolk. Buried in RIBECOURT BRITISH CEMETERY, Nord, France. Plot II. Row E. Grave 7.

Frederick Robert

Private 29563, 1st Battalion, Norfolk Regiment. Died from wounds received at the Battle of Arras 30 May 1917. Aged 31. Son of Frederick and Ann Ward, of Hall Cottage, Wilby, nr. Attleborough, Norfolk. Buried in ETAPLES MILITARY CEMETERY, Pas de Calais, France. Plot XXV. Row F. Grave 12A.

[Memorial and grave state 3rd Battalion] Private 12459, 7th Battalion, Norfolk Regiment. Died in the United Kingdom from wounds received at the Battle of the Somme 30 October 1916, shrapnel wounds to head and legs. Aged 25. Born Eccles, Norfolk, 30 January 1891, enlisted Norwich 27 August 1914. Son of Frederick and Anne Ward, of Welby Hall Cottages, Attleborough. Farm labourer by trade. Height 5 feet 6½ inches, weight 104lbs, girth 34½ inches, complexion fresh, eyes grey, ahir brown, religious denomination Church of England/ Buried north of the church in St MARY CHURCHYARD, ECCLES, Norfolk.

[Listed as 3rd Battalion on memorial] Private 14488, 9th Battalion, Norfolk Regiment. Killed in action 15 September 1916. Aged 20. Born Roudham, Norfolk, enlisted Noriwch. Son of Alfred Nunn, of Overa, Eccles, Attleborough, Norfolk. In the 1901 census he was aged 5, son of Alfred and Elizabeth Nunn, born Rouddham, Norfolk, resident near The Hall, Roudham. In the 1911 census he is aged 15, son of Alfred and Elizabeth Nunn, a Farm Labourer, born Roudjam, resident Overa, Eccles, Norfolk. Buried in GUILLEMONT ROAD CEMETERY, GUILLEMONT, Somme, France. Plot VII. Row G. Grave 10.
