This
memorial is to be found in the United
Reformed Church, Princess Street, Norwich covering those who made
the ultimate sacrifice in World War 1. The memorial takes the form of
two wall-mounted tablets with alabaster surround with the names in black
lettering; each has a cross within a circle inset into top. There are
a total of 45 names for World War 1.

FURZE,
HENRY CHARLES, L-Corpl., No. 12/353, Auckland Infantry
Battn., New Zealand Expeditionary Force, only s. of the
late Henry Furze, of Norwich, by his wife, Margaret Elizabeth
(30, Devonshire Street, Norwich), dau. of the late John Spellings
Abel, of Norwich; b. Stepney, London, E., 1 May, 1890;
educ. at a Norwich Church School; was a Cabinet Maker; took a
keen interest in the Boy's Brigade movement, of which he was a
member for several years, resigning with the rank of warrant officer,
to join the local 1st Vol. Battn. Norfolk Regiment., in which he attained
the rank of Coy. Sergt; went to New Zealand in June, 1911, and
settled at Hikutnia, Thames Valley, as a Farmer; volunteered for
Imperial Service, and joined the Auckland Infantry Battn. after
the outbreak of war in Aug. 1914; left for Egypt Oct. 1914; went
to gallipoli in April, 1915; was reported wounded and missing
after the landing ther on the 25th, and is now assumed to have
been killed in action on that date; unm.

Note:
FESMY CHURCHYARD, contained 18 British graves from 1914 and 1918,
all buried by the enemy. Fesmy was defended by the 2nd Munsters
August 1914 and captured by the 1st Northants November 1918. These
graves were brought in St. Souplet. There are now nearly 750,
1914-18 war casualties commemorated in this site. Of these, one-fifth
are unidentified and special memorials are erected to 55 soldiers
from the United Kingdom, buried in other cemeteries, whose graves
could not be found.
