HILGAY
Transcribed
from The Lynn Advertiser of early 1916 by Maureen Rust
Pte ALBERT
STOCKING, a native of Hilgay, is reported as seriously wounded and missing
from a Canadian Regiment on the Western front. He is 25 and went to
Canada a few years ago, enlisting on the outbreak of war. He is the
son of Mr A Stocking, of Holt's Lane, a well known and highly respected
lay preacher for the Wesleyans. Mr Stocking has received no tidings
of his son for over ten weeks.
Lance-Corp.
Alfred Hall, son of Mr and Mrs A Hall, Hilgay Fen, has been killed in
action on the Western front. He was in the 1st Norfolks and was home
a month or two ago on leave. A married brother has been missing since
the "Norfolks' charge" in the Dardanelles. There are three
other members of the family with the colours and they were the recipients
of Royal congratulations last year.
