World War 1 & 2 - Roll of Honour with detailed information
Compiled and copyright © Cogenhoe & Whiston Heritage Society 2020

Cogenhoe is a village in South Northamptonshire and overlooks the valley of the River Nene and is some five miles east of the county town, Northampton. The Cogenhoe Roll of Honour is mounted on an external wall of St. Peter's Parish Church Hall, Mill Lane, Cogenhoe at the junction Of York Avenue and Station Road. It is a First World War memorial with later additions for the Second World War, erected in 1921, unveiled on 22 May 1921 by Lt-Col John Brown D.S.O.; moved to the present site in 1973. It stood against the boundary wall demarcating the site of the village school, at the junction of Brafield Road and Station Road. The dedication service was led by Reverend R A Selby of Earls Barton. The memorial was made by Messrs J G Pullen and Sons of Northampton. In 1973 the memorial was re-located to its present site to make way for road alterations. After the Second World War an inscription was added to commemorate those who fell in that conflict. The memorial underwent conservation work in 2014, funded by War Memorials Trust. It takes the form of a landscape orientated, mould-edged and weather-hooded tablet set onto an ornate classical surround comprising a stone backboard flanked by two pilasters which support a convex pediment; there is a cross in relief at centre of pediment and the tablet itself contains incised inscriptions and names infilled with black paint. There are 15 names listed for World War 1 and 4 names for World War 2. The memorial is a Grade II listed building.
