The memorial is situated in front of the church of All Saints in the town of Earls Barton and is weathered/corroded and hard to read on the west side. It takes the form of a single-stepped octagonal base surmounted by a crenellated octagonal plinth with inscription panel spaces between crenellations; a further stepped octagonal sectioned plinth stands on the lower level with an octagonal sectioned column and cross, rising from it; the memorial is a Grade II listed building. There are 73 names for World War 1 and 13 for World War 2.

MAWBY, PTE. HARRY, North Staffordshire Regiment, the son of Mr. and Mrs. G. Mawby, on the Hardwick road, Earls Barton, was found dead on board ship and buried at sea. He was previously wounded in France, and at the time of his death was going to the East. Before enlisting he worked for Messrs. Rudlin and Co., Wellingborough.

NEWMAN, SERGT. C., Northamptonshire Regiment, the husband of Mrs. Newman, of Victoria-street, Earls Barton, and formerly of Irthlingborough, who has received official news that he is dangerously wounded in the head, right arm, and right foot, and was admitted into hospital in Egypt on April 24. Before enlisting he worked for Messrs. Cox and Bateman. He went through the Gallipoli campaign, and left England in July 1915.

The BROTHERS SMART, of the 1st Northants Regiment, were born at Earls Barton. Albert has been officially reported killed in October, and John has been unofficially reported killed about the same time. They were the nephews of Mr. W. Brawn, the bandmaster of Earls Barton Old Silver Band and of Wellingborough Temperance Silver Band, and many of their relatives live at Earls Barton and Wellingborough.

Born 16 August 1895 at Sunnyside, Earls Barton, Northamptonshire. Resident Earls Barton, enlisted Westminster. Son of Austin and Hannah Streeton, of Earls Barton, Northampton. In the 1901 and 1911 census he was resident at Sunnyside, Earls Barton, Northamptonshire. Educated at Earls Barton Board School, then Northampton Grammar School, and finally at London University at Richmond College, which was actually owned by an American University and taken over for the duration of the war. Served in Salonika, Egypt and Palestine (see "Allenby's War"). as a Lewis Gunner. His unit went to Salonica on the 30 November 1916, then Egypt on 25 June 1917 and finally on to Palestine. Buried in JERUSALEM WAR CEMETERY, Israel and Palestine (including Gaza) . Section K. Grave 63.

Northampton, by his wife, Hannah, dau. of Samuel Underwood ; b. Earls Barton aforesaid, 16 Aug. 1895 ; educ. Council School there ; Town and County School, Northampton, and the Westminster Training College ; joined the Queen's Westminster Rifles 3 Dec. 1915 ; served with the Expeditionary Force in France and Flanders from 26 June, 1916 ; proceeded to Salonika 21 Nov. following, and from Aug. 1917, served with the Egyptian Expeditionary Force in Egypt and Palestine, and was killed in action there 20 Feb. 1918. As a student he was brilliant, as in addition to passing the Oxford Senior with first-class honours, he also passed the London Inter. B.Sc. examination in 1914. It was his intention to join the teaching profession ; unm.

Extract from Northampton Chronicle and Echo 16 November 1914:

WILSON, SERGT. H., 1st Northamptonshire Regiment. Sergeant Wilson, whose father, Mr. Charles Wilson, lives at Station-road, Earls Barton, has died of wounds as a result of a shot through the back. He was buried at Pilkem, France, on October 24.

He had been with the Army 12 years, having served seven in India, and was 31 years of age. He left India on December, 1913, and proceeded to France with one of the earliest contingent.

Four Earls Barton men are in the regiment, and all four have been put out of action, three wounded and Sergeant Wilson killed.
