inset into the top is the Scout's emblem; it was inaugurated in

physically fit for more service home or abroad. Death of an Arthur
Middleton recorded in Wellingborough District in quarter Jan/Feb/March
1917. Aged 38. Discharged as permanently unfit. Served 1 year 235
days - no wounds. No medals awarded. Character good. Still able
to work and earn full living in the labour marketDisability - diabetes
from 1913 - not due to military service suffering before joining
up but it was not picked up. Losing weight rapidly - only 7 stone
5 pounds - he was 9 stone 11 pounds 12 months previously. Enlisted
8th August 1914 at Devonport, Plymouth, aged 36 years. Shoemaker.
No children. Eyes dark brown. - hair dark brown- fresh complexion
- 5' 6 and half inches. Returned to 6 Commercial Street, Higham
Ferrers. Born 2nd March 1878 at H. Ferrers. Christened at Wesleyan
on 11th April 1878. On 1901 Census this Arthur was a shoemaker aged
23 years. He married Catherine Mary Bettles on 26th December 1907
at H. Ferrers Wesleyan. On 1911 Census the couple lived at 6 Commercial
St. Son of Alfred and Ellen Middleton (nee Parker) of Thrift St.
Arthur's siblings were Walter, Gracie and Mary. He was an Assistant

1918 until his death. Buried in MARTINSART BRITISH CEMETERY, Somme,
