Enlisted Oxford, resident Henley-on-Thames.Son of Jesse and Emma Christian, of Midland Counties Home, Leamington Spa. Born Henley-on-Thames. Buried in DUHALLOW A.D.S. CEMETERY, Ieper, West-Vlaanderen, Belgium. Plot I. Row A. Grave 16.

Edgar James Edwards

Private 6966, 4th Battalion, Australian Infantry, A. I. F. Killed in action 16th April 1918 in France & Flanders. Aged 23. Born Middlesex, enlisted Manilla, New South Wales, Australia. Educated Harpsden School, Henley-on-Thames. Emigrated aged 19. Engineer by trade. Son of Edward and Kate Cripps, of Mill Lane, Reading Road, Henley-on-Thames. [This is the only Stephen NILSOM there is] Lance Corporal 7692. 1st Battalion, Princess Charlotte of Wales's (Royal Berkshire Regiment). Killed in action 24th May 1916 in France & Flanders. Born and resident Newbury, enlisted Reading. Buried in ZOUAVE VALLEY CEMETERY, SOUCHEZ, Pas de Calais, France. Plot II. Row C. Grave 19.

Private 2136, 37th Battalion, Australian Infantry, A.I.F. Died 10th February 1918. Aged 26. Son of Henry Edward and Mary Jane Robbins. Native of Harpsden, Henley-on-Thames. Commemorated on YPRES (MENIN GATE) MEMORIAL, Ieper, West-Vlaanderen, Belgium. Panel 7 - 17 - 23 - 25 - 27 - 29 - 31. Not listed on the Australian Roll of Honour Database.

TALBOT

Frank Henry

Second Lieutenant, Royal Warwickshire Regiment attached to 1st. Battalion, Border Regiment. 29th. Division. Formerly Sergeant, Oxfordshire & Buckinghamshire Light Infantry. Badly wounded on the Somme, brought home and died in military hospital in the UK 15th July 1916. Son of Mr & Mrs Frank Talbot of Harpsden. Buried in St. Margarets Churchyard, Harpsden, Oxfordshire.

THATCHER

Walter George

Private 8274, 2nd, Battalion, Oxfordshire & Buckinghamshire Light Infantry. 2nd Division. Killed in action near Polygon Wood 21st October 1914 aged 28. Born in Bix, Oxfordshire and enlisted in Henley on Thames. Son of Mr & Mrs R.T.Thatcher of “The Folly” Lower Assendon, Henley on Thames. Commemorated on The Menin Gate, Ypres Belgium.
