Distinguished Service Order (DSO)

*Lt-Col John Henry LANGTON - Langton joined the Rifle Brigade in 1888 as a Private, transferred to Royal Engineers, served South Africa war 1900 to 1902. Retired as SqnSM, Mounted Branch RE, 1910. CSM, signal coy RE, appointed Lt, 203rd FC March 1915. Served France in 203rd FC, RE, 41st Div. Promoted Major and gazetted 28 Jan 1917 to 4th Royal Welsh Fusilieers in France; ran Regimental riding school at Bouvelinghem, commanded 4th RWF from Feb to Jul 1917. T/Lt Col, awarded DSO (LG 1-1-18) whilst attached 24th Bn London Rgt for conspicuous organizing ability in connection with Messines Ridge attack. Awarded brevet as Lt Col. Recommended twice for CMG during retreat of 1918, when he kept back large numbers of enemy with just a handful of men. A/Lt Col 25 Sep 1918 to 16 Dec 1919, commanding 4th RWF to end of hostilities and brought them back to Wrexham May 1919. Mentioned in Despatches: LG 18/12/17 and 27/12/18. Native of Gillingham.

Major Kellow William PYE - commanding officer Sept 1915 to June 1917 (sent to India). DSO (London Gazette 1-1-1917) for general good work, 1917 (at Arras). Born 12-9-1882. Gazetted 2nd Lt in RE 21-12-1901, Lt 1-4-04, Capt 21-12-12, Major 21-12-1916. Retired from army 12-2-20.

Major John Warton LLOYD DAVIES MC - Joined 203rd FC from 204th FC Nov 1915. Commanding officer from 5-9-1917 to 16-6-1918 (invalided with influenza). For general good work, (London Gazette 16-6-1918).

*Lt-Col Frederick SUMMERS MC - Joined 203rd FC on formation in March 1915 from Cambridge University OTC. Lt, commanded No 2 section, 1916. Transferred CRE's staff as adjutant, Feb 1917. Later T/Major & A/Lt-Col in RE. DSO (London Gazette 3-6-19). MC award notified to T/Capt (A/Maj) in LG 1-1-18.

Military Cross (MC)

T/Lt John Warton LLOYD DAVIES - Commanded No 3 section. For general good work, Maltz Horn Farm and Arrowhead Copse, Somme July 1916. Later Major, commanding officer. Citation (LG 20-10-16): For conspicuous gallantry and determination when in charge of working and wiring parties in advance of the front line. Under heavy shell-fire he successfully carried out his work. He set an example of great energy and devotion to all under him.

Capt Roland King UHTHOFF - Joined No 1 section August 1916. Wounded 5-9-1917. MC award in LG 1-1-18 as T/2nd Lt (A/Capt).

T/Lt Geoffrey Vivian COLCHESTER - Shelford. Joined March 1915 from Border Regiment. Commanded No 1 section. Awarded for general good work, Maltz Horn Farm & Arrowhead Copse, Somme July 1916. Wounded August 1916. For conspicuous gallantry and devotion to duty in keeping his working parties together under heavy shell-fire. Although severely wounded, he continued at duty and his gallantry and courage inspired all working under him.

Lt Michael Godfrey TATE - Joined November 1917. For 1-6-1918, 35th Division attack on Aveluy Wood, Somme. LG 24-9-18: For conspicuous gallantry and devotion to duty. He led his section forward with great dash and determination to the final objective, where he assited in the work of consolidation and inspired those round him with his spirit and fine example. He and his men killed a considerable number of the enemy and captured a number of prisoners.

Distinguished Conduct Medal (DCM)

103532 Cpl (Acting-Sgt) E HALEY, 203rd Field Coy RE. (Witney,Oxon) He has consistently displayed great coolness and contempt of danger from shell fire during the period May, 1916, to September, 1918. His gallantry and inspiring example to those round him have been conspicuous when working under heavy fire. He is an invaluable non-commissioned officer and leader of men. (London Gazette 3-9-19).
