HMS Asphodel (K56), Flower Class Corvette built by George Brown & Co. (Greenock, Scotland): Kincaid. Laid down 20th October 1939, alunched 25th May 1940, commissioned 11th September 1940. Torpedoed and sunk 10th March 1944 by German U-boat U-575 off Cape Finnisterre while ytravelling in convoy SL-150 which was combined with convoy MKS-41. Of a ships compliment of 97 there were only 5 survivors were picked up by the British corvette HMS Clover. HMS Asphodel was commanded by Lieutenant M.A. Halliday, R.N.Z.N.R when she was sunk.
